Eye care in the digital age

In this era, especially after the advent of corona,we find ourselves even more glued to our mobiles laptops etc, education has also become more online!

So it's our duty to take care of our eyes ,especially children's eyes.

Use of devices for upto 8 hrs leads tothe following problems.

When the eyes are focused at a near point(30 to60 cms,the eye muscles get tired leading to pain and tearing of eyes.

Tendency to develop short sight,or an increase in short-sightedness.

Decreased blinking of eyes,(5-8 blinks per minute,instead of 15 blinks per minute) leads to Computer vision syndrome (dryness of the tear film in the eye leading to dry eye,with redness,pain and discomfort in eyes.)

The screen of mobile or computer radiates blue light ,which decreases the hormone melatonin which is needed for a  good night's sleep,so you must put away devices 2 hours before sleep .Blue light filter spectacles also help.

Other points

The lighting in the room should be moderate.

Anti glare filters may be used for the screen.

The computer screen must be a little below eye level.

The font size must be moderate ,and contrast must be good.

Things to do if you are  at your devices for long..

Take a break from the computer every 20minutes to look away to a distance of 6 metres,and blink 20 times.

Put away your devices 2 HOURS before bedtime .
